The South Pointe Middle School Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Susan Willmering, received the highest rating of “Gold” at the 2019 Washington DC International Music Festival held April 21 at the Kennedy Center.

Additionally, four members representing the group, Maia Tordillo, Lauren Cheng, Celine Chao and Noya Moya,participated in a memorable wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington DC asthe rest of the Wind Ensemble watched.

“I can’t explain in words how humbled and proud I was watching my students descend down the steps to place a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown,” Willmering said. 

“I know it moved every student and chaperone there and the memory will last a life time in each of us!”
