Siemens Student Winner Announced at Diamond Bar High
California winner for AP Achievement in Math & Science

DIAMOND BAR, CA--Diamond Bar High School is proud to announce that senior Jacqueline (Jackie) Chow, has been named the California state winner of the 2010 Math and Science Siemens Awards for Advanced Placement.

This is a signature program of the Siemens Foundation administered by the College Board.  The awards recognize up to 100 of America’s top achievers in Advanced Placement (AP) science, mathematics courses with a $2,000 college scholarship to one male and one female in each state.

“Jackie is an incredibly humble student and has a great approach to her school work, AP tests, and her overall goals in life.  She is a great kid!” said Principal Catherine Real.

Jackie has taken a total of 12 AP Tests to date, including 7 AP exams in math, science, and technology. And in all subjects and on every exam, she has received a score of 5 - the highest possible score. She will earn college credit for these outstanding exam scores.

Jackie said her favorite AP Classes have been Chemistry and Physics.

And her love of science grew from her passion for food.

Finding out basic principles, like boiling and melting points, was interesting, she said. And that knowledge became more meaningful when she was cooking.

“It helped me understand why cheese melts at a certain temperature!” she added.

What is her secret to success?  “Be passionate about what you do,” Chow said.  “If you don’t that passion, you won’t find lasting success.”  Chow feels lucky to have found her love of science at an early age while attending South Pointe Middle School.

Her notable accomplishments this year include being named in the Top 150 Chemistry Olympiad, National Merit Finalist, and a Presidential Award, Gold.

Jackie plans to study chemical engineering and economics/business in college, with career aspirations of becoming a doctor and researcher.

This year 98 high school students in 50 states – including 91 seniors, six juniors, and one sophomore were recognized as the highest AP achievers in the nation.
