WALNUT, CA—The Walnut Valley USD Board of Trustees spotlighted standout students and parent volunteers during the February 21 meeting.
The recognitions kicked off with C.J. Morris Elementary fourth grader Terry Shi receiving the Super Star Student Award. Terry is a caring and compassionate student to both his peers and adults. You will often find him giving hugs, asking how someone is doing, and greeting everyone with a smile. During his time at C.J. Morris, he has grown immensely due to his love for learning and determination. It’s a joy to hear him reflect on things he has learned both academically and socially to anyone he comes in contact with. “The world is a better place with Terry in it!” exclaimed Principal Jennifer Veneracion.
Parent volunteer Jenn Rosal was honored with the Partner in Education Award. Jenn began her journey at C.J. Morris in the 2017-2018 school year. She has been a dedicated Community Club secretary and treasurer and classroom volunteer. Jenn has always advocated Walnut Valley’s “Kids First” motto not just for her own children, but for all the students. She works hard to provide opportunities and experiences that will make their time in elementary school memorable. “Jenn leads with her heart, but executes every project strategically so that our big, over-the-top visions come to life,” Veneracion said. She is the mastermind behind the snack shack, holiday gift shop, and community dine out events.
“Jenn has played a large role in making the school community a warm place to be!” Veneracion said.
Evergreen Elementary fifth grader Ian Choi was honored with the Super Star Student Award. Ian stands out not only for his academic achievements, but also for the exemplary qualities that define his character. His commitment to responsibility is a cornerstone of his success, as he consistently ensures that his work is completed with diligence and excellence. Ian is widely recognized for his politeness on campus. His thoughtfulness extends beyond the classroom, as he goes out of his way to greet others with a warm "good morning" and bids farewell with equal courtesy. Ian's consideration for those around him creates a positive and inclusive atmosphere, contributing to a sense of community.“Ian's values of responsibility, courtesy, and kindness set a positive example for his peers and contribute to the overall success and harmony,” shared Principal Dr. Gabriel Cardenas.
Parent volunteer Marisol Lara received the Partner in Education Award. Marisol has proven to be an exemplary force within Evergreen School's community. As a proactive leader, Marisol stepped into a pivotal role when faced with the departure of most of last year's Community Club members. Unfazed by the challenge, she took the reins and propelled Evergreen's Community Club to new heights. Always eager to enhance the school experience for the children, Marisol consistently introduces new ideas that captivate and delight. From creative events to engaging activities, Marisol's contributions have added a vibrant and dynamic dimension to the school's educational landscape. Marisol's communication skills are a hallmark of her success. Whether coordinating events, collaborating with teachers, or engaging with students, she consistently demonstrates a high level of effectiveness in conveying ideas and fostering a collaborative environment. “Marisol’s uplifting presence creates a welcoming atmosphere within the school, contributing to a sense of unity among teachers, staff, and students,” Dr. Cardenas said.
