Two Diamond Bar Seniors Receive Gates Millennium Scholarships
Ten Years Of College Education Completely Funded
The Walnut Valley Unified School District congratulates Diamond Bar seniors, Gabrielle (Gabby) Momah and Moises Roldan, who have been awarded the Gates Millennium Scholarship (GMS).
GMS selects 1,000 talented students to receive a good-through-graduation scholarship to use at any college or university of their choice.
Gates Millennium Scholars are provided with personal and professional development through leadership programs along with academic support throughout their college career.
The prestigious scholarship is awarded to about 20 per state – and two recipients are from Diamond Bar High!
Gates Millennium Scholars will have their entire college education funded for 10 years.
“They are great kids and I am extremely proud of them!” said Principal Catherine Real.
The program is sponsored through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Grade Level Coordinator Sonja Burns explains that each winner sends in their financial aid packet and after other scholarships and grants are deducted, the Gates Millennium Scholarship will cover the rest.
Gabby will attend Stanford University in the Fall and study Business and Engineering in hopes of becoming a CEO of an Engineering firm in the future. She also plans to stay involved with non-profit organizations.
“This young lady has done it all on our campus. Straight A’s in academics, varsity athlete, president of organizations, and a stellar percussionist,” Burns said.
Moises will attend the University of Utah for his undergrad and PhD program. He has already been accepted to the Honors Program for Pre Med Biology with career goal of becoming a neurosurgeon.
“This scholarship could not have been better suited for a better individual. He comes from a wonderful family and has a great head on his shoulders. He will do amazing things in his future! We are all so excited!” Burns said.
