Walnut Valley Unified School District Kicks off School Year for Teachers and Staff
Walnut, CA (August 28, 2024) — The Walnut Valley Unified School District (WVUSD) officially kicked off the 2024-2025 school year with a celebration to welcome back its teachers and classified staff at an event at Walnut High School earlier this month.
“We appreciate our teachers and staff for all the work they do,” said WVUSD Superintendent Robert Taylor, Ed.D. “They deserve recognition for playing such important roles in the lives of students. Directly or indirectly, they empower students, and we are grateful for each one of them.”
The sports-themed celebration included a recognition of the District’s Classified Employees of the year and Teachers of the Year, including District Teacher of the Year Christina Phillips, a third-grade teacher at Quail Summit Elementary School. Special Education Aide Anne Gonzales received the Classified Employee of the Year distinction.
The Grammy Award-winning high school bands, under the direction of Corey Wickes and Katie Takahashi from Walnut High and Steve Acciani and Marie Santos from Diamond Bar High School performed at the event. Diamond Bar High School junior Rae Martinez sang the national anthem while Diamond Bar Boy Scout Troop #777 presented the flag.
