Diamond Bar High School Hosts Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

and Dedication of its 400 Building and Library

Measure WV Funded the Project Remodel

Walnut, CA (November 7, 2024) Walnut Valley Unified School District (WVUSD) hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to signal the completion of the remodel of the 400 building at Diamond Bar High School (DBHS) and a dedication of the library on November 6 at DBHS.

Measure WV, which voters passed in November 2018, provided the funding for the remodel project which took more than a year and a half to complete.

The library was dedicated in the name of Robert L. Corkrum, EdD, in honor and recognition of his outstanding commitment and gratitude for his service as the second principal at DBHS.

“We’re as excited as our students are about the enhancements to the new building,” said DBHS Principal David Hong. “The increased student engagement and motivation will contribute to student learning and enhanced collaboration that will create a stronger sense among students that they have ownership over their own learning,” he added.

Superintendent Robert Taylor, EdD, explained, “This facility reminds us of Dr. Corkrum’s unwavering commitment to education. He believed that a strong foundation in learning could empower our youth to achieve greatness. The library, a hub of knowledge and creativity, will inspire future generations — just as Dr. Corkrum inspired us during his tenure at the school.”

Enhancements of the 400 building include 75-inch commercial grade TV monitors, wall-mounted speakers, and programmable lighting. Improvements to the library involve modular furniture, an enlarged textbook storage room, and two mounted projectors with drop-down screens.

WVUSD Board of Trustees President Helen Hall explained, “The library itself will serve not only as a repository of books but also as a gathering place for ideas, innovation, and community. Dr. Corkrum’s legacy will continue to thrive within these walls, encouraging students to explore, discover, and grow.”

DBHS student Grace Shioroishi sang the national anthem for guests, which included students, parents, teachers, local dignitaries, WVUSD leadership, and other community members.
