Walnut Valley Students Recognized for Achievement
WALNUT, CA—The Walnut Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees recognized several students for outstanding achievement during the meeting held on October 19.
Four Quail Summit Elementary students were honored for the outstanding qualities of Excellence, Academics, Perseverance, and Character.
Congratulations to the following students: Wesley Ip (honored for Excellence), Virginia Wang (honored for Outstanding Academics), Joshua Kummerman (honored for Perseverance), and Caitlyn Kanemitsu (honored for Outstanding Character)
The 5th graders were selected by their teachers Miss Smith, Mrs. Burke, and Mrs. Leslie for demonstrating these outstanding qualities.
They also produced a video called Quail Summit Super Stars that was shown at the Board meeting.
The video project highlighted the successes of these four children. It featured fifth grader Wesley Ip interviewing three classmates about academic and social growth at the Diamond Bar campus.
“Wesley and I wrote the script and recorded it on my iPad, and all of the students helped in different roles,” said Principal Dr. Alysia Hobbs.
“We’ve got some really neat kids! I wanted to showcase the strengths they've built upon while at Quail Summit and how we are dedicated to student success,” she said.
“This is an example students taking on the core values of the school,” said Superintendent Dr. Dean Conklin.

Two high achieving brothers, James and Jeremy McCreary, were honored for earning the highest Boy Scout rank – the Eagle Scout Award.
“On very special occasions we honor students within our District who have achieved a high level on their own,” said Superintendent Dr. Conklin.
James, a Diamond Bar High School senior earned his award in November 2010.
Jeremy graduated from DBHS in 2005 and earned his award that same year.
Representing Troop #730 in Diamond Bar, the scouts wore their uniforms with sashes filled with rows of merit badges.
Boy Scouts can learn about sports, crafts, science, trades, business, and future careers while earning merit badges. There are more than 100 merit badges.
Jeremy described the personal management badge identified with a dollar sign on his brother’s uniform. He said it helped learn about managing money, credit and debit cards, and financial planning.
