WALNUT, CA—Students costumed as witches, robots, skeletons, pirates, and princesses marched in Westhoff Elementary School’s Halloween costume parade.

There was a cupcake, claw arcade game, shark, pizza, stove, and AMC theater –literally hundreds of wonderful, creative costumes!

Westhoff staff dressed up as characters from the book Click Clack Moo – chickens, pigs, mice, wolf, monkeys and cows with notes for Farmer Brown.

The school-wide event held October 28 culminated Red Ribbon Week activities in support of the national campaign promoting leading a drug-free, healthy lifestyle.

“It is so much fun when we can combine Red Ribbon Week with Halloween.  We use this time to remind students the importance of making good choices for a healthy-drug free lifestyle,” said Principal Denise Rendon.

Students wore jeans and cooked up recipes for a healthy life during the “I'm a Jeanius, Live Drug Free Day”.  They also signed banners promising to be drug free.

For Tuesday’s "Stay in the Game Be Drug Free Day”, students wore their favorite sports t-shirt or jersey and that promoted good sportsmanship and attended the ‘Three Strikes You’re Awesome - WE CARE” sports assembly.

Students wore t-shirts inside out on Wednesday’s "Drugs Turn You Inside Out." Day. They played relay races wearing heavy backpacks or other “impairments” to help them understand that drugs alter thinking and physical ability.

Everyone wore red and had a twisty pretzel snack during Thursday’s "Don't Let Drugs Twist Your Mind Day.”

“Don't Be Tricked. Drugs Are No Treat” was the theme of Friday’s Red Ribbon Halloween parade.  Every grade level paraded in costumes around the amphitheater in front an audience of students and parents.   Westhoff staff members surprised everyone with a flash mob dance to the song Thriller.

Schools throughout the Walnut Valley Unified held Red Ribbon Week activities this week including “Turn Your Back on Drugs ” at Walnut Elementary, “These Paws Don’t Touch Drugs!” at Collegewood , “Jump away from Drugs” at Vejar, “Stomp Out Drugs” at C.J. Morris, and “Super Heroes Day” at Maple Hill .
