Quail Summit Families Dance the Night Away
Fundraiser Held to Restore Computer Lab
Diamond Bar, CA--Quail Summit Elementary families came ready to kick up their heels in a fundraiser held Thursday, November 10 to purchase needed insurance and new locking desks for the school’s computer lab.
A Father/Daughter Dance held from 6-8 p.m. in the decorated multipurpose room to the wafting Big Band songs played by the wonderful Disneyland Jazz Band.
Dads were gussied up in suits and ties and the young girls donned their prettiest dresses, some wore tiny crowns.
Under twinkling lights, couples danced the Tango, Twist, and Cha cha cha. Some took a Waltz lesson and some just had fun twirling!
“I’m just glad she’s having fun!” said Tom Clarke about his daughter first grader Jessie.
During the Glenn Miller classic Pennsylvania 6-5000, dancers stopped and shouted out the famous phone number when cued by the band.
Guests were presented with corsages and boutonnieres and took photographs for a lasting memory of the special evening.
Outside in school’s amphitheater mothers and sons kicked up their heels at a DJ Dance. Hip hop dance lessons and a dance contest kept the laughs coming!
Chick-fil-a provided dinner in the library for dads and daughters, and outside mom and their sons were served delicious barbecue sandwiches were donated by LA Meats.
A silent auction was held with donated items including spa treatments and Disneyland tickets.
The event wouldn’t have been possible without the generous donations and services from Chick-fil-e, Cantrell Photography, Xavier’s Florist, Fresh and Easy Market, Party City, Target, Walmart, and Walnut High School ASB.
Twenty-six Apple computers were stolen from the library computer lab on September 26. The District covered the $10,000 insurance deducible to replace the computers that had been purchased by the school’s Community Club.
Principal Dr. Alysia Hobbs said the entire school was devastated with the loss because computer lab was in the heart of the school. Students accessed it throughout the week for educational programs such as Skills Tutoring, Accelerated Reader, Star Fall, Nettrekker, and other educational websites, as well as use for general computer skills.
“Tonight was the silver lining seeing our parents and students dancing, enjoying dinner together, and helping the school at the same time,” Dr. Hobbs said.
