Making Wishes Come True
South Pointe Joins Operation Christmas Child Campaign

DIAMOND BAR, CA—This week, South Pointe Middle School students donated about 200 shoeboxes for needy families around the world.

The boxes are labeled for a boy or girl in age categories from 2 to 14 years old.

Each is filled with school supplies, small toys, hygiene items, and candy. Some students also donated the $7 shipping required for each box.

The holiday gifts are part of Operation Christmas Child through the Samaritan’s Purse organization. Last year, over 8 million children around the globe received these holiday shoeboxes.

South Pointe’s Christians in Action club headed up the fundraiser.

The club has over 30 members and teacher/advisors are Claudia Huff and Amy Park. Teacher Kathy Johnson volunteered to help with the shoebox drive.

This was the first year the club joined the shoebox campaign and they spread information on the school’s daily news show.

By the week’s end, a huge pile of holiday presents had been delivered to the school’s Multipurpose Room.

The club gathered on November 10 to load up the shoeboxes for delivery.

Sixth grade member Brenda Xiao said the club wanted to make a difference for children in need.

“One person can make a big difference and that’s what we’re here for. I’m happy because I know that this Christmas a lot of children will be happy!” she said.
