Over 100 Middle and High School Students Named to 2011-12 Honor Ensembles

Over 100 Walnut Valley Students Named to 2011-12 Regional and State Honor Ensembles
Diamond Bar and Walnut High students to perform in All-State Honor Choir on March 24

WALNUT, CA-- Walnut Valley Unified School District is proud to congratulate the middle and high school students named to the 2011-12 honor ensembles. These talented musicians and vocalists were selected after competing in a rigorous audition process with students from throughout the state.


Chaparral Middle School:

8th grade clarinetist Katie Desmond, under the direction of Leslie Schroerlucke, was named to the Southern California School Band & Honor Association (SCSBOA) All-Southern Junior High Honor Band.  The ensemble performed on January 15 at Citrus College Haugh Performing Arts Center. 

For the second time, 8th grade violist Shana Roan, under the direction of Greg Rochford, was selected for the All Southern California Middle School Honor Symphony Orchestra. The concert was held January 15 at Citrus College.


South Pointe Middle School:

Twenty-one South Pointe Middle School students, under the direction of Susan Willmering, were selected for the All-State Honor Band that performed on February 16 and 17 in Fresno. Congratulations to the following students: 8th Grade: Alex Beverly- bassoon, Anjali Patel- baritone, Annabel Park- French horn, April Song- trombone, Charlie Liu- trombone, Edward Yang- trombone, Joyce Kang- percussion, Kevin Ting- clarinet, Kristie Leung- percussion, Lauren Kashiwabara- flute, Lesley Dea- alto saxophone, Melody Guo- bassoon, Niraj Ganesh- clarinet, Samuel Doong- clarinet, Stephen Shu- bassoon, Veda Patel – baritone.  7th Grade - Brian Chen- baritone saxophone, Chase Langi- baritone saxophone, Elizabeth Li- French horn, Joshua Park- alto saxophone, Peyrin Kao- clarinet.

Suzanne Middle School:

Thirteen Suzanne Middle School musicians, under the direction of Ami Garvin, were selected for the Southern California School Band & Orchestra Association (SCSBOA) All-Southern Middle School Honor Ensemble.  They performed in a concert held January 15 at Citrus College. Congratulations to Chris Wang - Bass Clarinet; Jincheng Xia – Clarinet; Jeff Chow, Michael Hermanto, Ayesha Ng, Elliott Tang, Angel Wong – Violin; Kevin Chang, Stephen Chien, Jessie Wang – Cello; Crystal Chang, Ben Hou, David Hou - String Bass.


Diamond Bar High School:

Two Diamond Bar High School singers Monique Magpayo and Joseph Yang, under the direction of Patty Breitag, auditioned and were named to the Southern California All-District Honor Choir. Both students performed in the All District Mixed Choir concert in November 2011 at Santa Monica High School. These students also scored high enough to be named to the California All-State Mixed Choir. The 2012 All-State Honor Choirs will convene in Pasadena with rehearsals taking place at Pasadena Presbyterian church or Pasadena First United Methodist Church and the performance on Saturday afternoon, March 24, 2p.m. in the Sanctuary of the Lake Avenue Church.  Diamond Bar High has had choir students named to the All District and All State Choirs every year since 2005.

Instrumental Music Director Steve Acciani reports that 21 Diamond Bar High students were selected for the All State Honor Band and Orchestra that performed on February 19 at the Saroyan Theater in Fresno. Congratulations to Michelle Sung- Flute; Sean Kitiyama, Steve Choi- Clarinet; Ryan Yamishiro, Crystal Lee, Evelyn Na- Bassoon; Jonathan Lee- Alto Saxophone; Jasmine Jan-Tenor Saxophone, Bradley Pavy- Trumpet; Andrew Jan, Brian Jan- French Horn; Pearl Lee, Casey Lam, Andy Leung- Trombone; Sarah Dresser, Andrew Lee, Benji Pun- Percussion, Joy Yi, Stanley Liu, Johnny Wang- Violin; Lucy Chen- Viola.

A total of 46 Diamond Bar High Students were named to the All Southern California Band and Orchestra. This concert was held at the University of Redlands on January 29.  This marks the second highest number from one school to be named to the All-Southern Honor ensemble. Last year DBHS broke the record with the most studen!

Congratulations to Michael Cheng, Ayisha Hussian, Michelle Sung-Flute; Sean Kitiyama, Steve Choi, Jefferson Chen, Natasha Cueneco, Junho Suh, Angela Park, Heidi Kang- Clarinet; Jasmine Jan - Tenor Sax; Evelyn Na, Ellen Son, Ryan Yamishiro, Kahala Raphola – Bassoon; Jasmine Hsu, Angie Zhang, Elizabeth Shim - Bass Clarinet; Randy Wang, Bradley Pavy – Trumpet; Andrew Jan, Brian Jan, Janelle Francisco - French Horn; Pearl Lee, Casey Lam, Andy Leung – Trombone; Brian Yu – Tuba; Cindy Liao, Nancy Li, Blake Stavros, Thomas Blanco, Benji Pun, Andy Hsu, Diane Tapit, Andrew Lee – Percussion; Joy Yi, Grace Chen, Vivian Wang, Jeannie Huang, Johnny Wang – Violin; Abigail Choi,Erica Chae, Hannah Roan, Lucy Chen, Irene Kim – Viola;  Josh Chen – Cello.


Walnut High School:

Six Walnut High School vocalists, under the direction of Lisa Lopez, were selected for Regional and All-State Honor Choirs. Congratulations to Chloe Chng, Dylan Chng, Dansel De Luna, Shi Fan, Hyun Hee Park, and Cassie Pong. They performed in the regional Honor Choir at Santa Monica High School in November. These students will also perform in the 2012 All-State Honor Choir concert at 2 p.m. on March 24 at the Sanctuary of the Lake Avenue Church in Pasadena. The concert is open to the public and no tickets are required.

Two Walnut High musicians, under the direction of Dr. Buddy Clements and Cory Wicks, were named to the 2012 SCSBOA Honor Band.  Congratulations to Martin Hsu – clarinet and Nathan Fulmizi- -bass trombone who performed at the University of Redlands on Jan 29.
