WALNUT, CA—The Walnut Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees honored 5th grade student Alice Zhang as a Super Star on March 7.

C.J. Morris Elementary Principal An Nguyen presented a five-minute video during the meeting that showcased Alice’s special attributes and accomplishments described by teachers and fellow students.

“Our staff overwhelmingly helped me with the decision to pick Alice for this award,” Nguyen said.

“She has overcome great odds in her personal life and is a wonderful success,” he said.

 

She was recognized for her cheerful countenance, artistic skills, and academic achievement.

The video began with an introduction by the successful Super Star honoree, followed by highlights from interviews with the people at C.J. Morris who know her well.

Alice said she likes to read, draw, enjoys classical music, and her favorite place on campus is the library.

“I love to read all the books there!” she said.  Alice enjoyed a recent visit to the mountains because of the snow. The young traveler also hopes to see China’s Great Wall and the glaciers in Antarctica.

Several C.J. Morris students and teachers shared their thoughts about Alice.

Her best friend Naomi described Alice as very funny, smart, and one of the highest students in the class in math.

Paige said Alice is a great artist and won this year’s ‘No Bullying” themed yearbook cover contest.

“I’ve seen her draw people and it looks amazing!” she said.

I thought I was going to win the contest until I saw Alice’s drawing, said Justin.

“Then I said ‘whoa!’ I’m really happy for her, “ he said.

She’s a take-charge kind of girl that we all love, Hailie said.

It’s been so great to see her blossom into a wonderful, incredibility intelligent and talented girl, said teacher Mr. David Boots.

I’ve seen her come alive developing friendships and relationships, said teacher Mrs. Tara Noelte.

It’s been such a pleasure to see her blossom and grow over the last two years into the young woman she’s become - smiling laughing and growing each year, described teacher Carol Mead.

Teacher Mrs. Diva Arellanez characterized Alice as a model student that always does her best. 

“Her true personality is shining through and I’m very proud of her!” she said.

Alice introduced herself in the video.  

In the video, Alice described the favorite place she has visited is the mountains. She said she especially likes the snow!
