Walnut Goes Big at State Conference
Business Club Wins Sweepstakes, 28 Top Ten Awards
Three Students Qualify for Nationals
WALNUT, CA--Walnut High School’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Club had a successful weekend competing the California State Leadership Conference.
The team won the 6th Place Sweepstakes Award.
“This is the highest finish for Walnut High School and I am very proud of all the students,” said advisor Neil Jacoby.
Two top performing students sophomore Victor Chen and senior Jenny Liang were named State Champions.
Victor won 1st Place in Accounting 1 and Jenny won 1st Place in Hospitality Management.
Three Mustangs – Victor Chen, Jenny Liang, and junior Wesley Lin (2nd Place in Economics) - qualified for the National Conference that will be held in San Antonio, Texas this summer.
The Walnut team competed among 40 qualifying schools at the Hyatt Regency in Irvine on April 19-22. Walnut’s team won a total of 28 top ten awards
“Congratulations to Neil Jacoby and Jerry Dutton for their dedicated work to help each of these students throughout the process. There have been many lunch and after school prep sessions to make this a success for them,” said Principal Jeff Jordan.
The team qualified for the state competition after winning the coveted 1st Place Sweepstakes Award at the 2012 Gold Coast Section Conference held March 3.
