Chaparral Middle School to Expand One-to-One Technology
Popular laptop program will be offered to 6th & 7th graders next year
DIAMOND BAR, CA--Chaparral Middle School has announced that it will extend its One-to-One laptop program into the seventh grade for the 2012-2013 school year, bringing the total students immersed in the technology rich environment to approximately 400.
“The decision is a direct reflection of the school’s desire to continue to meet the needs of its 21st century learners, who require an innovative, diverse, and global educational experience, “ said Principal Ron Thibodeaux.
Two hundred 6th grade students participated in Walnut Valley Unified School District’s first-ever One-to-One laptop core at the secondary level this school year.
Students were able to utilize the individual laptops in their math, science, language arts and social studies classes on a daily basis.
They enjoyed a blended learning environment in which they participated in class projects, discussions, labs and activities both on and offline.
These tech savvy students became proficient users of Blackboard, navigating online discussions, wikis, and more, which served to prepare them for higher education and beyond.
Throughout the year, students created multimedia projects, movies, websites, presentations, documents and more. They sharpened their problem solving skills and developed deeper conceptual understanding of the topics being addressed in class.
Both parents and students are enthusiastic about the extension of the program into the next grade level. Should you have further questions about the program, or wish to enroll your child, please contact Jen Alcazar, program coordinator and science teacher, at [email protected].
