WALNUT, CA—Diamond Bar and Walnut High Schools have been awarded the Gold Medal highest ranking in the 2012 U.S. News & World Report Best Schools in California report.

A total of 577 schools in California were named to the elite list including 97 gold medal schools, 301 silver medal schools, and 179 bronze medal schools,

Diamond Bar High ranked 61st and Walnut High ranked 65th within the state.

Additionally, DBHS ranked 316th and WHS ranked 348th nationally in the report.

For the 2012 report announced on May 8, nearly 22,000 public high schools in 49 states and the District of Columbia were evaluated. Schools were awarded gold, silver, or bronze medals based on state proficiency standards, how well they prepare students for college, and other factors.

“I am excited for our staff, students, and parents. They all work hard and are deserving of the recognition. I feel that the rankings confirm that Walnut High School is a great school for kids and it exemplifies the amazing things that take place here every day,” said WHS Principal Jeff Jordan.

Diamond Bar High was ranked 52nd nationally for Math & Science and 17th best for Open Enrollment in math and science for public high schools.

“We are very proud to receive national recognition of our accomplishments. Our school culture is founded on the 4 A’s: Academics, Activities, the Arts, and Athletics.  Combine this culture with an excellent staff, dedicated students and supportive parents and you get a positive learning community where students are provided a balanced and healthy approach to success.  We are beaming with pride at our school’s accomplishments!” said DBHS Principal Catherine Real.
