Board Honors Vejar Elementary Super Star and Community Partner

WALNUT, CA—The Walnut Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees recognized the Vejar Elementary School Super Star student and Partner in Education during the October 17 meeting.

Fifth grader Riley Hoff received a certificate of special recognition for being named the Vejar Elementary Super Star.

Riley really exemplifies all the wonderful things about Vejar, Principal Jennifer De Anda said.

All of her former teachers agree that Riley is highly motivated and enjoys learning.  She is willing to take risks to learn new things, and always takes learning to its highest level.  In addition, Riley is extremely kind and humble.  She is well liked by her peers and takes upon leadership roles.

“After working really hard, Riley has blossomed into a wonderful mathematician. In fact, she went back to her fourth grade teacher and said ‘I have this really cool strategy that I want to teach you.’ Not only does she care the students at Vejar, but the staff as well,” De Anda said.

Parent volunteer Elisa Cichoski received the Partner in Education for her commitment and support of the school and district.

“I have to tell you the Elisa is at Vejar more hours than I am!” said Principal De Anda.

The entire Vejar staff selected her for years of dedication and a parent who goes above and beyond.

Cichoski has been a parent volunteer for nearly a decade and involved in everything including the annual Harvest Festival, running copies each week for teachers, organizing box top collections, t-shirt sales, and the Meet the Masters art program, De Anda said.

“She’s always behind the scenes and is the quiet little lady that gets everything done without the glitz and the glory. She is just there taking care of us and we are so grateful to have her as part of our family,” De Anda said.
