Students Attend Fun and Spooky Halloween Party

WALNUT, CA—The Collegewood Enrichment Program hosted its 10th annual Halloween Party on Friday, October 26.

Over 300 children in the after school child care program in WVUSD elementary and middle schools attended the spooky event held at Collegewood Elementary School, said Child Care Supervisor Carol Burnett.

“We just do it because it is so much fun,” she said. Some of the students wore trick or treat costumes for the event held from 3p.m – 6 p.m.

Burnett even made 350 chocolate and vanilla cupcakes with Halloween sprinkles for the event!

About 75 volunteers from the Walnut High School Key Club helped with the 15 games, face painting, and haunted house.

The kids lined up to show their skill tossing peanuts into plastic pumpkins for a prize.

Others took a stroll around the Cookie Walk game hoping to be standing on the winning number when the music stopped.

In the Skeleton Teeth game, students perched on a chair to drop orange and yellow candy corn onto a skeleton face.

The traditional pin the tail on the donkey game was turned into “Put a Wart on the Witch” for the trick or treat party. Wearing a blindfold, students were spun around by a Key Club volunteer, and then dizzily tried to find the witch.

Along with lots of yummy treats and games, a spooky haunted house was constructed in the multi-purpose room by two former “Fun Club” staff and WVUSD grads – Paul Le Brun (who now works with the WVUSD Grounds Department) and Nick Lopez.

“We warned the kids before they went in that it was scary – and it was,” Burnett said.

The costumed duo and high school volunteers had fun jumping out at brave children that dared to enter the darkened foggy room.
