Quail Summit Hosts Zumba For a Cure
Party in Pink Supports Susan G. Komen Foundation
DIAMOND BAR, CA--Quail Summit Elementary teachers, staff members, parents, and students got their groove on during the 2nd annual Zumba for a Cure.
The high-energy dance fundraiser supported finding a cure for breast cancer awareness on October 29.
Many of the dancers wore pink hair ribbons and sports gear for the all-out, non-stop, fitness fundraising dance party held from 3:30 – 4:30 on the blacktop behind the school.
“Zumba for the Cure – just do it!” shouted second grade teacher Erin Ruhl while grooving to the beat.
Donations of $10 supported the Susan G. Komen “Fight Like a Girl” breast cancer awareness. The school also took orders for t-shirts through an event Facebook page.
Warehouse Fitness Instructor Fay Murphy skillfully led the group through the fast-paced dances. And if they didn’t know the moves, that was OK. It wasn’t a competition.
“Zumba is really about having fun,” said Anna Chung, kindergarten teacher and event coordinator.
“And as you can see we have people of all abilities here,” she added.
“Be brave - it’s for a good cause!” said Noon Aide Amy Guerrero about the challenging and fun dance moves.
Food Services Worker Hilda Medina came out to the try dance craze for the very first time.
“I’m not a Zumba girl, I’m just here to support the breast cancer fundraiser,” she said during a quick water break.
“Lots of parents and staff, and a few our friends from the Cardio House in Chino Hills came out to support us today,” said Chung
Every dollar raised is so important for this cause because the school has parents and staff members that been touched by breast cancer, Chung said.
We’re doing today’s fundraiser in honor of Quail Summit teacher and survivor Lori Aicard. It’s a tribute for her victory - she’s a teacher, a survivor, and an inspiration,” Chung said

Quail Summit Physical Education Instructional Aide Judy Quimpo joined the Fight Like a Girl dance party.
Instructor Fay Murphy led the group through the Zumba fast-paced dance moves during the fundraiser.
Participants jumped, twirled, and rocked to the pop hit Gangnam Style.
Dancing the Zumba is fun for all ages – and no experience is necessary!
