DBHS Girls Golf Tees Up 2012 CIF Championship
Sophomore Bethany Wu Wins Individual CIF Title
DIAMOND BAR, CA--Congratulations to the Diamond Bar High School Girls Golf Team and Coach Tony McCabe who won the 2012 CIF Southern Section championship game on October 22 and took the 2012 title.
This is the first Girls Golf CIF title in the school’s history!
“We’ve been one of the elite teams since the program opened eight years ago.” Said Coach McCabe,
“We’ve won the league championship every year, we’ve made it to the Sectional Finals seven out of last eight years, and we’ve made it to the State Semi-Finals four out of last eight years - only three teams have done this,” he said.
In the last three years, the DBHS team won 63 straight dual matches until Walnut High ended the streak.
Sophomore player Bethany Wu won the Individual 2012 CIF Title.
“She has been stellar the last part of the season,” said Coach McCabe.
“Bethany was also named League MVP - she’s the real deal!” he added.
"I am incredibly proud of the girls golf team and Coach McCabe. They have worked very hard this year to prove that they are indeed number one! Congratulations to Bethany for her tremendous accomplishment," said Principal Catherine Real.
Bethany finished top six in the league and then advanced to the Northern Division Individual Championships held at River Ridge Golf Course in Oxnard on October 25.
She competed with the best 100 female golfers in the Southern Section at the Sectional Finals on November 2 at Western Hills.
Wu shot three under par and only one other player broke par to earn the coveted title at the challenging course in Chino Hills.
“Pros like Tiger Woods and Ricky Fowler also won Individual Championships – she’s in that class now,” McCabe said.
The Girls Golf team vied in the state qualifying round on October 29 and placed in the top four which qualified the Brahmas for the Women’s Southern California Golf Association (WSCGA – State Semi-Finals) Championships on November 8 at The Golf Club at Rancho California.
If they finish in the Top 3 next week they will advance to the State Finals at Red Hill Country Club in Rancho Cucamonga, McCabe said.
