DBHS, WHS Students Win Top STEM Contest Honors
WALNUT, CA--The Chinese Institute of Engineers-USA/Southern California Chapter (CIE-USA/Socal) honored STEM completion winners during the 2012 Annual Convention & Awards Dinner on October 28 at the Diamond Bar Golf Course.
The 2nd Annual STEM competition, for high school and college students, was held Saturday, October 6 at Mt. San Antonio College.
Congratulations to Diamond Bar High senior Sara Pak who won 1st Place in the Presentation category. Her project was titled “Seasonal Wood Development of Adult, Re-sprout, Irrigated, and Non-irrigated California Black Walnut Trees Following Wildfire.”
Walnut High sophomore Timothy Yeung won in the Poster division. His project was titled “The Identification of Metabolomic Biomarkers in Proliferating and Quiescent Cells.”
The CIE-USA/SoCal is a non-profit organization and a chapter of national CIE-USA organization. In addition, Dr. Tony Torng, who had served as the CIE-USA/Socal President for the past two years, was awarded the 2012 Asian American Engineer of the Year Award. Dr. Torng has been instrumental in making CIE-USA/Socal a major chapter of the CIE-USA.
