WALNUT, CA—Collegewood Elementary first graders donated pajamas for children in shelters during a recent holiday pajama drive.
Eighty pairs of cozy pjs were collected during the holiday drive held December 1-12. Teacher Melani Garrett coordinated the event.
The Scholastic Book Club donated books so that each child could have a new book along with new jammies for Christmas, explained teacher Liz Dickerson.
“This fundraiser was held in conjunction with the Week of Giving sponsored by our Community Club. We wanted our children to understand that the true blessing of Christmas is in the giving, not the receiving,” added teacher Laura O’Donnell.
The Collegewood Elementary Week of Giving also included:
Kindergarten- donated shoes or money for “Soles for Souls”; Second Grade – “Read to Feed”, Heifer International; Third Grade - food collection, Shepherd’s Pantry; Fourth Grade - donated basic need items for homeless “Winter Shelter Program”; Fifth Grade – donated coins for homeless “Winter Shelter Program.”
