Suzanne Students Win Top Awards in American Math Contest
Eighth Grader Mike Bao Scores in Top 1% in the Nation


WALNUT, CA--Suzanne Middle School students took top honors in the 2012 AMC8 American Mathematics Competition.

Over 150,000 students participated in this year’s contest administered in November. The school received the official results on January 6.

Eighth grader Mike Bao received a Certificate of Distinction for scoring in the top 1% in the nation.

Eighth graders Ayesha Ng, Vivian Lo and Sophia Ding received a Gold Certificates for their 1st Place school finish.  They also received Honor Roll Certificates for placing in the top 5% in the nation.

Sixth grader Ethan Lin received a Silver Certificate for his 2nd Place school finish.   He also received an Honor Roll Certificate for placing in the top 5% in the nation and scoring above national average as a sixth grader.

Seventh grader Eugene Lo also received a Silver Certificate for his 2nd place school finish.   He also received Honor Roll Certificate for placing in the top 5% in the nation.

Seventh grader Christopher Wong received a Bronze Certificate for his 3rd Place school finish.  

Sixth graders Aaron Chang, Ethan Chang, and Jordin Wang also received Bronze Certificates for their 3rd Place school finish. They also received Honor Certificates for scoring above the national average as sixth graders.

Alice Zhang, Sheldon Zhu and Yijie Chien received Honor Certificates for scoring above the national average as sixth graders.

Suzanne has a MathCounts Team and Math Club with 85 members that vie in competitions throughout the school year. The AMC8 winners are from groups.

The MathCounts Team meets every Wednesday for two hours with Teacher/Coach Amy Erickson and volunteers from the Walnut High School Math Club. The Math Club meets to practice every other Wednesday.

“I am very proud of their efforts and these outstanding results,” Erickson said.

The 2nd Place winners in the AMC8 contest were 6th grader Ethan Lin and 7th grader Eugene Lo. 

The 3rd Place winners in the math competition were 6th graders Aaron Chang, Ethan Chang, Jordin Wang and 7th grader Christopher Wong.
