Fourth Grader Ethan Chin Named Evergreen Spelling Champ
March is Spelling Bee Month
DIAMOND BAR, CA—Ethan Chin, a fourth grader at Evergreen Elementary School, has been named the school’s Spelling Champion.
He correctly spelled "forensics" and earned the school title during the 52nd round of competition.
All 4th and 5th grade students participated in classroom competitions that narrowed the field of over 200 students down to 15 finalists who competed in front of their peers in the Evergreen Spelling Bee held January 28.
4th graders Breanna Yang took 2nd Place honors and Luke Zhou earned 3rd Place.
Ethan will now compete in the local Diamond Bar competition on March 16 that could lead to the 6th Annual Inland Valley Regional Spelling Bee held at Mt. San Antonio College on March 23.
And from there a possible nationwide contest at Washington D.C. in May!
Fourth and fifth grade teachers Lily Chang, Sally Choi, Shelby Coomber, Cathy Patterson, Lynn Otsu and Kris Kobzeff coordinated this exciting activity for their students with help from volunteer Bernice Bromberg and support from Evergreen Community Club.
"We are all rooting for Ethan in his next competition! This is another great example of our dedicated staff and fabulous volunteers working together to create wonderful opportunities for our talented students," said Principal Carolyn Wills.
Congratulations to Ethan, Breanna, and Luke!
