History Comes Alive at Colonial Faire
WALNUT, CA--Westhoff Elementary School fifth grade students took a trip through time during the annual Colonial Faire held on March 7.
For one day, students and staff costumed in 18th century attire experienced a glimpse of life as it was in our nation’s past.
As they rotated through hands-on activities, students played simple games of marbles, learned quill writing, created homespun candles, partnered up for country dancing, and more.
The event ties in with recent studies on the colonial era of American history. Teachers Kevin Curtain, Kimberly Dalton, Kary Penzes, and Vicky Kim organized the event that has become a tradition at the school.
Parent volunteers were involved at every activity cooking cornmeal Johnny cakes, tracing silhouettes for over 100 students, overseeing the candle making, and leading etiquette and dance lessons.
“This is such an exciting day for all our 5th grade students. The culmination of many lessons, discussions, projects, planning, and hard work makes Colonial Day memorable for our Westhoff students. Our 5th grade teachers put in so much time and effort to make this day special. It’s wonderful to see so many parents who volunteer and join in on the fun!” said Principal Denise Rendon.
