Castle Rock Students Show Off Business Skills
Second Graders Host Business Day
DIAMOND BAR, CA--On Oct. 29, over 100 Castle Rock Elementary second grade students presented their unique homemade items for sale at the annual Business Day.
The children recently learned that consumers and producers depend on each other.
They even created their own clever advertisements as they sold their products during the 50-minute sale.
“It was exciting to see how they used the I. B. Attitudes of creativity, independence, and confidence as they tried to convince shoppers to buy their product,” said Principal Carol Sullivan.
This activity was the culmination of an IB unit on All Consumers and Producers Across the World Depend on Each Other for the Exchange of Goods and Services.
Each student was given green “Castle Rock Cash” to shop and buy products from one another.
And shop they did!
Classrooms began buzzing with activity once students started making their purchases.
As the young consumers entered the classrooms for the sales, they scanned homemade caramel apples, notepads, friendship bracelets, piggy banks, decorated pencils, paper airplanes and more all displayed on desks.
Students were instructed to spend every dollar, which was a cinch amid the variety of treats and trinkets.
Some of the clever bargain hunters negotiated on the prices, then proudly plucked their buys into shopping bags.
The school welcomed over a hundred parents and staff members to the shopping extravaganza.
Superintendent Dr. Robert Taylor and Cabinet Members also joined the super sale and found the best buys in town!
“Thanks to our second grade teachers and students for an outstanding job! We are so proud that they are becoming global learners, thinkers, and prepared for the 21st century,” Sullivan added.
