Walnut Valley Kids Character Shines During Red Ribbon Week
Drug Free is the Smart Way to Be!


WALNUT, CA--Collegewood Elementary School participated in Red Ribbon Week activities from October 28-November 1. This year’s theme was “My Character Shines-I’m Drug Free!”

Each day, students participated in activities including signing a school-wide “I’m bugged by drugs” poster, wearing sunglasses on “My Character Shines-I’m Drug Free day; wearing sports themed clothing on “Stay in the Game-Play Drug Free” and parading in their Halloween costumes on October 31 to “Just Say Boo to Drugs!”

Students were also encouraged to enter a school-wide poster contest. The colorful and creative entries were on display in the Multi-Purpose Room during Red Ribbon Week.

One winner was selected from each grade level. Congratulations to the following winners:

Kindergarten – Annika Peterson,1st Grade – Adriana Kuniyoshi, 2nd Grade – Vito (Victor) Lee, 3rd  Grade – Tabetha Mora, 4th Grade – Kawin Watkins and 5th  Grade – Kevin Yuen.

Maple Hill Elementary in Diamond Bar hosted a “Sports Jam” themed Red Ribbon Week that also emphasized the importance of being healthy and staying drug free.

Students participated in fun activities each day during lunch recess including a “Boogie Drug Free” dance party, wearing their sports themed clothing on “Score in life, be drug free”, “Step it up, be drug free!” run/walkathon and “Jammin Jump Rope” on November 1.

Maple Hill kids joined the “Jammin Jump Rope” event held during the primary grade lunch recess on November 1 during Red Ribbon Week. 

The Collegewood Elementary Kindergarten winner is Annika Peterson. 

The First Grade winner is Adriana Kuniyoshi. 

The 2nd Grade winner is Vito Lee. 

The 3rd Grade winner is Tabetha Mora. Her poster said “Doing Drugs Isn’t Cool” When you do that, you’re a fool!” 

The 4th grade winner of the Collegewood Red Ribbon poster contest is Kawin Watkins. 

“Stay Drug Free to Keep Healthy!” 5th grade winner Kevin Yuen drew a happy shining star on his Red Ribbon Week poster contest. (5th grade winner Kevin)
