Lucky Day at Diamond Bar High

DIAMOND BAR, CA—St. Patrick’s Day brought a little luck of the Irish to Diamond Bar High School on March 17.

Students in the Special Day Class wore leprechaun-approved green shirts to celebrate the holiday. No pinching here!

During lunchtime, members of the Autism Young Ambassadors Club stopped by with a craft project.

Art Teacher and Advisor Coleen Gee brought supplies for the entire class – markers, paper, scissors, glue, staplers and chocolate “coins” to tuck into the pot of gold.

Each student colored rainbows and then assembled a Happy St. Patrick’s Day project with the help of club members.

The club was revived this year when senior Valerie Huang approached her art teacher.

“I told her I really want to do things for students,” she said.

The service club is now active with 15 members.

“Mrs. Gee helps me a lot,” Huang said.

“The last president graduated and then Valerie was interested. so we got it going this year. And my kids are wonderful!”  Gee said.

Last month, the club hosted a Valentine’s Day project with a heart and lollipop.

“I enjoy having the opportunity to help our students engage in a fun artistic experience on campus.  It’s a meaningful experience for both the SDC students and our club members,” Gee said.

Huang said the club is really trying to make a difference.

“We’re raising awareness for Autism and for all students who need a little help,” Huang said.
