Diamond Bar High School Honored With Grammy Award
DIAMOND BAR, CA—Diamond Bar High School has been named the 2014 National Grammy Signature School.
The national award presentation was made during the 2014 Community Spotlight on the Arts held April 26 at Mt. San Antonio College.
Governors Qiana Conley and Tremaine Williams, from the L.A. Chapter of the Recording Company, presented the official custom award and $6,000 grant to benefit the music program on behalf of the Grammy Foundation.
“We’re very happy to present this award to the school,” Conley said during the event held in the Sophia B. Clarke Theater.
The Diamond Bar Community Foundation and Rotary Club of Walnut Valley sponsor the concert that benefits local schools.
DBHS performing groups included the Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, Pianist David Yu, BiPolar Bears Band, and Piano Trio with Betty Kim, Kevin Tsao, and Evelyn Wang,
The Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Steve Acciani performed the finale, Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4 in F minor, Op. 36.
“I want to thank all of our students, parents, community members and our teachers, Steve Acciani, Marie. Sato, and Patty Breitag,” said Principal Catherine Real.
“I’m so fortunate to be the principal of such a wonderful high school. And we all truly do believe in the 4 A’s –Activities, Athletics, Academics and the Arts, to create really well-rounded students who are prepared to represent themselves and the community with pride.”
This year, 12 high schools were named 2014 Grammy Signature Schools. The top three schools are designated as Gold recipients.
Diamond Bar High was named the best of the Gold recipients as the National Grammy Signature School.
Diamond Bar High School was also named a Grammy Signature School in 2009. This is the first time the school receive the National Status.
"The impact of our GRAMMY Signature Schools program is truly significant," said Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy® and the GRAMMY Foundation.
"Through this GRAMMY in the Schools® initiative, the GRAMMY Foundation is able to provide critical financial resources and bring attention to the excellence of music programs in schools across the United States. This program also helped inspire the Music Educator Award™ presented by The Recording Academy and the GRAMMY Foundation that honors music's unsung heroes — the teachers who encourage music's next generation."
“In the last two weeks, we’ve raised over $60,000 for our music programs thanks to this incredible community,” Acciani said.
