Westhoff Students Perform Rhythms of our Nation
WALNUT, CA--Westhoff Elementary fifth graders embarked on a musical journey of our nation’s history during the Rhythms of our Nation performance on May 16.
Students began the patriotic performance with a Native American chant, reminding their audience of the important role the Native Americans played in the beginnings of America.
Then, the group sang a Shaker song as students performed a Colonial dance bringing people to the Colonial times.
The journey continued on into the era when rock and roll influenced our country until finally they arrived in the present time.
They dazzled their audience with an energy-filled performance of the hit “Life is a Highway” by Rascal Flatts.
The final number was a heartfelt rendition of “God Bless the USA,” which evoked tears of pride in many people.
The Rhythms of our Nation is a culmination of the Social Studies fifth grade curriculum, which covers American History.
After the show, students and families gathered at the lunch tables for a Taste of the States to share samples of state specific foods
