Outstanding Seniors Receive Kiwanis Scholarships

For the past 45 years, the Kiwanis Club of Walnut Valley has recognized outstanding student achievement and awarded scholarships to exceptional students at six local high schools.

Students who had excelled in various vocational classes were selected by the high schools in the Walnut Valley and Rowland school districts, as well as Diamond Ranch High school.

In addition, individuals were chosen by each school to be recognized for his or her achievement in the areas of Service, Leadership, Science, or Social Science.

Sixty-five students received plaques for their accomplishments during their senior year during a ceremony held at the Walnut High School Performing Arts Center.

From that group seven students, one from each high school, were selected to receive a scholarship that can be used to help pay for tuition, apprenticeship program, tools, or other expenses related to their area of emphasis.

Scholarships recipients were Nathan Rubio of Walnut High School, Eric Aguero of Diamond Bar High School, Chelsey Brody of Diamond Ranch High School, Sonia Hernandez of Santana High School, Yessica Hernandez of Nogales High School and Thao Bui of Rowland High School.

Jane Wu of Diamond Bar High School received the Joe Dyer Scholarship as the outstanding Key Club member for her service to the community, the school, and the Key Club.

To date, over $110,000 has been distributed and more than 3,500 students recognized.
