Second graders are all business at sale
DIAMOND BAR, CA--Castle Rock Elementary second graders presented an array of homemade items for sale at Business Day held September 28.
In four classrooms, merchandise was neatly arranged on desks with eager sales-clerk- students ready to make a sale.
They also created clever advertisements to help sell their products.
Evan Wilhelm prepared ten cute mummy pumpkins for the event.
“They are cool, so buy some,” his ad stated.
At 12:30, the young shoppers came through the doors with $20 in Castle Rock Cash ready to buy the treats and trinkets.
They chose from yummy baked goods, beaded bracelets, tote bags, bookmarks, bow ties, holiday decorations, and more during the sale of the century.
Eleahna Castorena sold frosted pumpkin muffins with tiny mustaches and google eyes.
“My mom baked them and I helped decorate and put the sprinkles on them,” she said.
Another clever second grader, Richard Williams, sold homemade red, purple, yellow and blue “play bo” craft dough for $4 a tub.
Business Day is the culmination of an IB Unit of Study on how consumers and producers across the world depend on each other for the exchange of goods and services.
The classrooms buzzed as soon as second graders started making their purchases and savvy bargain hunters negotiated prices during the 50-minute event.
“Business Day is a perfect opportunity for our students to put what they’ve been learning into action. It was great to see so many different students use various sales and bartering techniques to either purchase or sell their items. They had an awesome time!” Principal Dr. Resma Byrne said.
The school welcomed 100 parents and staff members to the Business Day event.
Superintendent Dr. Robert Taylor and Cabinet Members also came to support the special sale.
