THE GIVING SEASON
Chaparral students bring holiday carols to local seniors

DIAMOND BAR, CA—The Chaparral Middle School HUMANitarian Club is dedicated to providing service to others.

Since it began in 2007, members have been bringing joy to seniors during holiday visits at a nearby retirement home.

Students entertained residents at Brookdale Senior Living in Walnut (formally Emeritus) with Christmas carols on December 11.

The jolly group sang seven songs during the dinnertime performance.

“It was so touching to watch the seniors sing along with us. Many thanked the students as we were leaving,” said advisor and teacher Sherry Robertson.

Everyone’s favorite song was Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer!

A parent of one of the club members mentioned that she was told that Christmas carols are therapy for the seniors who struggle with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.

The songs often help bring back memories of their past.

“All the students left with a sense of community, the holiday spirit, and the greatest gift of all - feeling proud of themselves for making others smile,” Robertson added.
