Westhoff presents 23rd Spark of Love program
WALNUT, CA— The threat of a little rain didn’t stop Westhoff Elementary from presenting its 23rd annual Spark of Love holiday extravaganza on December 11.
Just seeing the shining faces of children singing holiday songs brightened up the cloudy skies during the toy drive and musical program.
The kindergarten through fifth grade students dropped off hundreds of new, unwrapped toys in huge boxes lining the performance area.
Firefighters from Walnut Station #146 would later deliver the donations to underserved children in the Los Angeles area.
“This is definitely the season of giving!” announced Principal Denise Rendon.
Westhoff has been a proud Spark of Love partner since the campaign began in 1992.
The Spark of Love toy drive is co-sponsored by Southland Firefighters and KABC7.
“Westhoff has contributed to the over 9 million toys for all of our friends in counties across Southern California,” Rendon added.
Families and friends filled the school amphitheater for the school’s marquee event.
Each grade level then took to the stage to perform a special holiday song, complete with choreography.
Adorable kindergarteners costumed as Christmas trees complete with tree-topper hats performed the “Happiest Christmas Tree.”
First graders kept the beat during the “Christmas Conga”, while second graders sang “This One’s for the Children.”
Third graders danced to “Christmas Cookies” followed by the fourth grade presentation of “Donde Esta Santa Claus?” featuring a flamenco dance by alumnus Inez Zung, now a junior at Walnut High.
Enthusiastic fifth graders performed “Go Go Christmas” featuring a bevvy of dance, gymnastic, scooter, skateboard, and roller blade talent.
Staff members performed a holiday line dance during the “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” finale with Santa and his elves.
Westhoff’s Spark of Love program was featured on KABC news.
