CJ Morris students spread holiday cheer
WALNUT, CA—Cyrus J. Morris Elementary in Walnut held its annual Family Night of Giving last night to spread “holiday cheer” to families in need.
The school offered many ways to get involved in the giving.
Toys and sporting equipment were collected for the Spark of Love toy drive. New children’s pajamas were donated for the Orangewood Children’s Center and “gently used” towels and blankets for the Inland Valley Humane Center for use with the animals in their kennels.
The children crafted cards with special messages for the troops.
‘We’re making letters for soldiers that are far away from their families during the holidays,” explained fifth grader Mia Luna.
Families also had the opportunity to spend time together making holiday ornaments - one to take home and one that would be donated to a local nursing home.
Third grader Kiely Hurtado had fun creating a snowman, reindeer, and elf with her father, Raymond.
“We’re going to put them on the tree when we’re done!” she said.
Kindergartners took the stage to perform holiday music from around the world, including Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Dreidel Song, and Jingle Bells.
“The Family Night of Giving is so special because it gives everybody in the community a chance to contribute in some way and experience the sense of giving,” said Principal Shehzad Bhojani.
