South Pointe hosts Night at the Museum

DIAMOND BAR, CA--South Pointe Middle School hosted its first-ever Night at the Museum on January 12.

The school’s multi purpose room was abuzz as 8th grade honors social studies students showcased their research projects for National History Day (NHD).

Students spent four and a half months tirelessly researching topics revolving around the 2016 NHD theme, “Exploration, Encounter, and Exchange.”

Teams had the unique opportunity to present their work through a variety of mediums including exhibits, websites, documentaries, papers, or live performances.

The teens dressed for success as they presented projects to a panel of judges including teachers, administrative staff, and Assistant Superintendent Dr. Matthew Witmer.

At the conclusion of the event, the top five projects were chosen to represent South Pointe in the 2016 LA County History Day at Azusa Pacific University in March.

Congratulations to the following top finalists:

The Harlem Renaissance: A Revolution of Music and Literature. Documentary created by Lauren Chen, Fiona Huang, Morgan Joe, and Lindsay Kashiwabara.

Walt Disney: The Man Behind the Magic. Documentary created by Katherine Ngo, Nia Mitchell, Natalie Kim, and Nadia Colon.

Jonas Salk: Polio Pioneer. Exhibit created by Mena Hassan, Cassandra Jeon, and Woolim Kim.

NASA’s Early Manned Missions. Exhibit created by Joshua Chung, Phillip Huynh, Cyrus Phan, and Raymond Cheng.
