Maple Hill Teacher Selected for National Master Teacher Program
Master teachers provide support to educators across the U.S.

DIAMOND BAR, CA – Maple Hill Elementary kindergarten teacher Lisa Esse has been selected as a Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Master Teacher.

PLTW is a nonprofit organization that provides transformational learning experiences to K-12 students and teachers across the U.S., through K-12 pathways in computer science, engineering, and biomedical science.

Esse has served as a PLTW teacher in the school’s PLTW Launch program since August 2015.

The veteran educator has taught at Maple Hill for the past 22 years.

PLTW Master Teachers are a talented and passionate cohort of teachers who play a vital role in preparing PLTW classroom teachers with the knowledge and skills needed to lead engaging learning experiences for K-12 students.

There are currently 565 PLTW Master Teachers in the U.S.

During PLTW’s immersive classroom teacher training and beyond, Master Teachers lead their fellow teachers through the curricular content and activities and empower them to take on the role of classroom facilitator and coach. Throughout the school year, Master Teachers offer ongoing support through online Professional Learning Communities, email, and phone calls. Furthermore, Master Teachers teach PLTW classes themselves.

“Maple Hill is highly honored to have Lisa Esse designated as a Project Lead The Way Master Teacher. This is our first year entering PLTW and to have one of our premier teachers selected is not only a testament to the caliber of teacher that Lisa Esse is, but also a tribute to the exceptional instructional program that Maple Hill is now proud to be a part of,” said Principal Nancy Stingley. “Lisa is a very dedicated, caring and creative teacher who places the needs of the students first. We are extremely proud of her.”

PLTW selected Esse after a rigorous application and interview process. In addition, applicants to the PLTW Master Teacher program submitted a video demonstration, learning demonstration, and letters of recommendation.

This year, PLTW selected 90 teachers from the more than 150 applicants to be Apprentice (first-year) Master Teachers.
