Diamond Bar, Walnut make U.S. News’ best of 2016
WALNUT, CA--U.S. News & World Report released its annual Best High Schools ranking this month, and once again, Walnut Valley USD schools made the cut.
Diamond Bar High School earned a gold medal, as it did last year, ranking 338th in the United States and 51st in California. Additionally, DBHS took 98th in its STEM ranking.
Walnut High School earned a silver medal and ranked 105th in the state and 621st nationally.
Both standout schools have been included in the report every year since the publication began its ‘Best High Schools’ search in 2009.
More than 28,000 schools were reviewed in all 50 states and the District of Columbia to determine the top public high schools, with more than 650 in California earning a ranking.
U.S. News looked at overall student performance on state-required tests, high school graduation rates, and evaluated on how they prepare students for college using participation and performance data from Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) exams.
Both Diamond Bar and Walnut offer an extensive roster of IB and AP courses to provide teens with an opportunity to challenge themselves with college-level course work during high school.
In 2015, U.S students took nearly 4.5 million AP exams, and more than 56,000 I.B. diplomas were awarded after the May exam session, according to the report.
This year, 500 high schools received gold medals, 2,173 schools earned silver, and 3,545 took home bronze in the national ‘Best High School’ rankings.
