DIAMOND BAR, CA—Diamond Bar High senior Kathleen Gani, 17, made her college commitment official during a signing ceremony on Thursday.
The All-American swimmer accepted a scholarship to attend the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California.
“I knew when she was a freshman that this day would come!” said head coach Darlys Ankeny.
Gani holds numerous school records and vied in the 2015 CIF State contest in the 200-individual medley and 100-backstroke events.
She has been swimming competitively since the age of nine.
“I’m so thankful that my parents put me into swim, and along with my coach, for always pushing me. Because there are days when I don’t’ want to go to practice,” she said.
“And they are always there to help me push through!”
“Last year was one of my favorite years,” she recalled.
Gani and three of her Brahma teammates, who also are fellow Brea Aquatics club members, made it all the way to CIF State.
“It was super fun!”
For now, Gani says she will continue to “smell like chlorine” for at least another four years.
“I’d really like to go to the Olympics, but I just want to make my family proud!”
