You Gotta Have Heart!

February 9, 2017

DIAMOND BAR, CA—Castle Rock Elementary students hopped, skipped, and twirled for a good cause during Jump Rope for Heart on Thursday.

Proceeds from the nationwide fundraiser raise important funds and educate students about living a heart-healthy lifestyle.

All nine Walnut Valley elementary schools join the American Heart Association event held each February, while middle and high school students take to basketball courts for the Hoops for Heart challenge.

Physical education teachers Judy Ameluxen, Geri Burrows, and instructional aides Susan Rinear, and Judy Quimpo led students on the kick off day of the annual event.

Walnut Valley has been involved with the Jump Rope for Heart for over two decades, according to Ameluxen. She estimates elementary donations will top $40,000 this year.

“We are proud to promote this event through the P.E. program!” she said.

The children were grouped into teams while they skipped to the beat of popular songs on the playground.

“Jump Rope for Heart will help people with heart disease and find a way to cure them,” said third grader Vicky Sun.

Jumping rope is fun and we raised money!” exclaimed Vivinni Lopez.
