WALNUT, CA--Walnut High School honored 37 seniors well on their way to pursuing careers in the medical field on Tuesday evening.

The teens were presented with white lab coats and honor medallions during a ceremony marking the completion of the rigorous three-year International Baccalaureate Career-Related Programme/Project Lead the Way (IBCP-PLTW) Biomedical Sciences Program.

The hard-working students displayed knowledge, ability, and aptitude in the area of biomedical science.

Congratulations to the following Class of 2017 honorees: Kevin Cao, David Castillo, Harrison Chang, Emily Chavez, Alisha Chen, Erin DeAnda, Hailey Egans, Celine Etenia, Jewelia Favela, Victoria Gridiron, Mariam Habbak, Emily Honng, Hannah Karimi, Dante Kruise, Jonathan Lamarque, Ana Liang, Iris Lopez, Sheryl Ly, Brittany Mark, Jon Mirto, Joshue Morales, Ayesha Ng, Bunmi Orunesajo, Tristan Park, Andrew Shiang, Samantha Siu, Jonathan Vigil, Cameron Walker, Yu Cheng Wang, Nicolas Wong, Kevin Yu, Briseis Yue, Aaron Yueng, and Jessica Zimecki.

Additionally, three students received special awards for displaying exemplary effort during the course of the program: John Mirto - Enthusiastic Learner, Ayesha Ng – Excellence in Biomedical Sciences, and Sheryl Ly – Outstanding Team Player.

Since launching in 2013, Walnut High has remained the only school in the state to offer both IBCP with the PLTW Biomedical Sciences program as its career-related component 

There are currently only 136 IBCP schools worldwide, 84 in the United States, and four in California.

“These students are remarkable and exemplify why we have the best IBCP-PLTW Biomedical Sciences Program in the state!” said instructional dean Barbie Cole.
