WALNUT, CA--Suzanne Middle School students recently cleaned out their closets, rounding up hundreds of pairs of shoes for charity.
A total of 2,123 pounds of “kicks” were donated for people in need during the two-week Challengers for Change campaign.
Student leaders in Marla Rickard’s Pals and Plus class organized the fundraiser that collected new and slightly used shoes for Angel Bins, a company that helps schools raise funds by recycling everyday items.
Not only was the entire school involved in the challenge, but members of the neighborhood dropped off footwear donations as well.
Funds from the shoe drive will now be used to sponsor a child with a life-threatening illness through the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
“Our kids can change the world and our students took one idea and grew it to impact lives all over,” Rickard said.
“Allowing students opportunities to serve others is just one way that character growth happens at Suzanne!”
