WALNUT, CA—Over 25 Walnut High students representing several clubs on campus are making sure the school community pauses to remember the 9/11 tragedy on Monday.

Volunteers gathered today after school to place nearly 3,000 American flags on the front lawn to commemorate the 16th anniversary of the terrorist attacks.

They created the 15-foot-tall 911 and pentagon shaped display with the red, white, and blue patriotic markers in about an hour.

This year, United Med, Junior Statesman of America, Giving Back, and the National Honor Society joined forces for the 7thannual project.

“Every year we think it’s important to commemorate 9/11,” said senior Ashley Lin from the United Med club.

“We put the flags in front of the school because it’s a very visible and one of the busiest streets during school pick-up,” senior Brian Chan, a member of the National Honor Society added.

Diamond Bar High School’s Young Americans for Freedom club will cover the front lawn on campus with 2,997 flags beginning at 6 a.m. on Monday to represent each life lost in the tragic terrorist attacks.
